01Introduction

Astravus brings together stories of lives and societies across a distant future shaped by humanity’s transformations. Throughout the galaxy, living worlds known as Astravii sustain communities within their bodies and encompass generations of individual experience within their consciousness. Their cultures, relationships, and ways of living develop through the people who inhabit them, the histories they carry, and their encounters with one another.

The collection explores life within and between these worlds, from the intimacy of particular relationships to changes unfolding across generations. Calista’s story, set on Lumen, offers one account of that wider existence.

02Worlds

The Astravii

Each Astravus has a body, a consciousness and a history. Its living structures support the people called Astraviin, while the minds of those who have transcended into it contribute to its continuing awareness. Individual memories and personalities endure within this shared existence, giving each world its own character.

These worlds maintain relationships across the distances between them. Travelers carry experiences and cultural influences from one community to another; family connections extend across worlds. Within an Astravus, art, work and daily encounters participate in the development of its culture.

Lumen

The young child of Aurora and Nyx is developing its own identity. Its presence accompanies daily life through living architecture, patterns of light, changes of warmth and sound. Lumen is the setting of Calista’s story.

Seeds of Youth

Book I

“My earliest memories are of stories told to me by my parents.”

Calista · Earliest Memories

Calista’s account begins with memories of family life on Lumen. Maia teaches her to tend plants, Arin works with her in the workshop, and Selene’s music fills the household. She grows alongside Kael and Lyra, with Shadow, Barkley and Nibble accompanying the children through their days.

Her friendships with Cassia and Joren lead to shared adventures, creative work and conflicts that change as they grow. Across her longer life, art becomes a means of understanding experience and connecting with others, through grief, love, parenthood and teaching.

The manuscript follows that life across its larger arc. Seeds of Youth also has an illustrated visual-novel adaptation of Book I, with a fixed story that readers advance at their own pace.

Art and everyday life

Art is woven into the Astraviin’s relationship with their worlds. An utamn is something like a dream and a song, a reality expressed through many forms. Paintings, music, poems and crafted objects can become shaari, giving form to aspects of an utamn. Together, these acts of expression contribute to the inner life of the Astravus.

Traditional instruments and handmade objects remain part of a culture with living technology and mental interfaces. Creative work can be personal, shared within a household or developed through a community. Its meaning grows through the experiences of those who make it and those who encounter it.

Calista’s painting, Aris’s music and Cassia’s stories give these practices particular voices. Their work carries relationships and memories into forms that other people can share.

Households and relationships

Households organize care and daily life across generations. Families include parents, children, siblings, partners and companions, while constellations describe committed adult romantic or peer relationships. These different bonds shape how people live together and support one another.

Constellations

Skills and living systems

Guilds preserve skills, teach practitioners and maintain shared tools. Astraviin work with the living systems of their worlds, combining personal knowledge and craft with technologies that respond to thought and presence.

05Histories

Origins and continuity

The Astravii’s history reaches back to humanity on Earth. Longer lives, automation and new ways of coordinating work changed its societies, while households and guilds became enduring structures of care and skill. Expansion through the solar system brought distinct cultures to the Moon, Mars, the Belt and the outer systems.

Over centuries, some people began choosing lasting forms of shared consciousness. Early meldlings preserved individual memories and identities within a collective mind. These minds came to embody the habitats that sustained them, developing into the living, starfaring beings known as Astravii.

This distant past is part of the inheritance carried into their lives throughout the galaxy. The cultures of individual worlds continue to develop through their own histories and relationships.
